Facelift
A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure by which sagging skin and wrinkles around the face are corrected, resulting in a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. Modern-day facelifts are highly individualized and produce a natural, healthy look which lasts for several years. When performed by a professional, a facelift is considered a safe and common option for reducing the effects of aging. About the procedure To begin, the patient is given either a general anesthetic or local anesthesia with sedatives. The incision used for a standard facelift beings at the temple, extends down along the front of the ear, curves underneath the earlobe and back up behind the ear to a point near the hairline. Once the incision is complete, the face lift surgeon tightens the underlying muscles and tissue using a folding technique. Excessive fat may also be removed at this time. The overlying skin is then gently pulled back tight and any excess skin is removed. Finally, the incision is closed by means of sutures or clips, and bandages are applied.
